An Ocean

we, each one, are an ocean
to stand in timid wonder on my own shore
filled, full, folding under the horizon
the depth, the distance grovel into greedy mullings
that feel as a spot of smallness
almost nothing against this immensity
but these waters are clearly finite
and with my curled lips' confidence
I whisper “who said they understand infinity”?
yet it can be encompassed
with two dipped, cupped hands
twitching on a winter’s day
ever notice fear follows all riddles?
tip-toe creeping, crouching low
full of meekness fed on apologies
nodding and feigning
from the wake of what we don’t know?
know it not
know it not
and know it now
‘til now be known

Thank you Kimberly!
Very nice Katherine… this section of your poem…
that feel as a spot of smallness
almost nothing against this immensity
but these waters are clearly finite
and with my curled lips' confidence
I whisper “who said they understand infinity”?
yet it can be encompassed
with two dipped, cupped hands
twitching on a winter's day
reminds me of being small within the Universal picture, but then at the same time understanding all and feeling the immensity. Very nice… Thanks for sharing… ; - )
