Catherine : mildly metaphoric Conversational Repose

Conversational Repose

Posted on Mar 7th, 2007 by Catherine : mildly metaphoric Catherine
a relaxed body, a spent mind
let the residue of insignificant thoughts
saunter through my disattending consciousness
conversation, rich and creamy, was the day’s bounty
but now, the film reel has ended with a satisfied, syncopated flipping
though keenly aware, I’m numbly inarticulate

shoulders sink into the cool sheets
pillows conform and simper
collect, silent waves of heat
not apparent to the inattentive
my own warmth will pool, with patience
an ocean of comfort
a long night

time to hand the reigns over
sleep, dreams, stand ready
they will repeat our words, but change dimensions
ask those questions, with different masks
move and change and billow rightly

perhaps by morning
with its twisted sheets
and deeply dreamt reverberation
I’ll awake retooled, insightful
with a new film
to project in your open door

What a lovely poem. I guess I'm no the only one with twisted sheets and a spoonful of meditation before bedtime.

Interesting thing about a reader's perception and the filters they see the world through.  When I first read the poem it spoke to me of adjusting to a life after a relationship; getting used to being alone, “conversation, rich and creamy, was the day's bounty”.  Then after reading the comments I re-read the peom and saw it as a tired individual readying for sleep.  Interesting.
Well done poem, I enjoyed the imagery, I happen to be a film buff.

I always am going for a kind of “duality” between being literal and metaphoric (and a lot of my poems have little “inside jokes” for my own amusement:-)

So your comment pleased me Rafeal Antonio… thanks!
