Napping on a Windy Day

Posted on Mar 29th, 2007 by Catherine : mildly metaphoric Catherine
I revel in the bluster
when the wind outside
makes a fierce ocean of the air
invisible, except for the flotsam
of street debris and leaves
and I lay in half sleep
while the gusts flow and rally
rattle my windows
with sudden passion
then ebb low
for a moment's reflection

I am warm, content
snug in partial slumber
napping, wrapped in the shelter
of goose down quilts
with smooth fabrics
deep luxurious heat
speaking contrast
to the raw drama outside

the shaking of the real world
is melding with my dreams
making an odd place of connection
just so rift with clarity
that it is a better place to dwell
with one hand holding dreamful hopes
and the other
feeling the wind

I can never tell which is which, and the more I try, the less clear the boundary is.
It is all just … “something.” How's that for a perfectly clear thought? :)

Perhaps that is why we often need the “blustery days” ….
so we can feel the “difference”

The eye of the storm, perhaps?  According to the “madsci network,”  “The 'eye' is the center of the rotation, where the winds are calm.  . .  If you are unfortunate enough to ever be in the eye of a hurricane, you would experience very strong winds as the eye approaches, followed by a period of clear skies and calm winds while the eye is overhead.”  http://www.madsci.org/posts/archives/2000-05/958104976.Es.r.html

Wonderful metaphor.

i've been helping my students relearn how to feel the harmonics all around them and hear the vibrations moving through them.  dreams that shake the worlds.  powerful, powerful lines.

oh, yes.  wind is a powerful clarifier and dreamweaver.
