Forward Motion

Posted on May 28th, 2007 by Catherine : mildly metaphoric Catherine
beach bare feet
sandy soles
could feel the earth’s energy
streaming, screaming from the ground
saying simply “don’t deny me
I’m everything
gravity, wants your struggle
wrestle the air
the universe, after all
is push and pull”

every muscle twitched
like the feline smile
when a just woken lion
has finished stretching
the world unlocked
its fire, its blur
bursting with hunger, for motion

my legs didn’t think twice
growled “follow me”
a symphony of movement
my eyes squinted lightly
in gentle focus
fragmented concerns
desires, burdens
un-scattered
realigned
became acceleration

then my heart finally cried
as I hit my stride
for solace, blew through my hair
and it seemed
if I listened, and listen I did
my body was singing a lullaby
with every heavy breath

sorrow, let my legs
do the talking
forward motion, the addiction
sorrow craves
to lift, fly, join the sky

and as it did
I turned
faced the water
felt the tide
swing up
in cold curiosity
lapping with the rhythm
in splashing laughter

love, always laughs
salty
speedy
laughter

Joy is the foam on the waves in this ocean of tears, isn't it?  Today, I needed reminding of this.  Your poem did that for me.  Thank you.
