Third Story Window

Posted on Jun 8th, 2007 by Catherine : mildly metaphoric Catherine
third story window
the magic carpet of introspection
invisible, the sun shining in my eyes
perched above, present within
and this sill feels my clutching
forgotten but not lonely
it knows that time
is shaped empty
doesn’t seek to hold
anything

the perspective tilts
just enough
plays with the triangle geometry
of the human flame
the ground world is clear
not at all distant
but deep emotion
rises only, in swirling slices
that dissipate strangely
when not near the ground

and I am free, to view
my long ago
joyful bright childhood maps
crispy to memory’s touch
murky undigested strivings
that forgot to tape down the edges
sleepy conclusions, the incorrect punctuation
of manuscripts left unread

today the breeze lifts up the curtains
shakes the dust less settled
leaves molecular criss-crossings
that smirk about inperception

and poetry, directly random
holds its breath like a flower
whose crimson hue knows both finite
and infinite
but still will not quibble
between the two

this resonates with everything else i can see, which is a funny way of saying i like it a lot, i spose.  i like it because it's so much keener and plumb than 'balance'.  balance is like pretending to buy the cereal for taste as you count the calories on the box, hesitating.  this is more like things as they are- something i strive for, but in striving keep looking at the box, i think.  really appreciate it.  ive gratitude for these things you toss out- the navigations between the infinite and finite without disturbing either.
